I had an IUD placed at the beginning of July to try and help with heavy periods and constant spotting between periods. When I went in for my check-up a month later my doctor took out a big chunk of tissue and she wasn't sure what it was. It got sent to pathology and I had an ultrasound completed also. Pathology came back as "stromal tissue", non-malignant. But my endometrium was thicker than an ultrasound I had a few months ago. This concerned my doctor and now I'm going in next week for a D&Cā¦ read more
Ok, I've been a women's health nurse for over 20 years. When an IUD is placed, the body starts to believe that it is perminately affixed inside, so naturally, skin and tissue can and do grow and adhere to IUDs, implanons, anything that has been inside the body for years. The endometrial linning is thicker in all pcos patients, that is part of having PCOS. The fact that we do not ovulate as often as others causes our endo linning to thicken, putting us as a population at risk for endometrial cancer. That being said, I personally think that your doctor is just being very thorough and covering her a$$. I have seen very large "chunks" of tissue come off of IUDs. I would ask her if she could just do a repeat ultrasound in another month to check the endometrial linning thickness. Especially if you recently had an endometrial biopsy come back negative. Remember, docs are great hearted people, mostly looking out for others well being and just double/triple checking that they don't let someone get cancer, but surgeries also bring in a big profit as well. I personally do not think you have anything to be worried about.
Can't believe it took me 3 months to see your response! Thank you for your input. When I went in for the D&C they also did that thing where they look inside with a camera (forgot what it's called, sorry!) and the found a ton of polyps, which they snipped off then and there. She even took pictures so I could see before and after. They had to take out the IUD to do all that and they re-inserted that as well. All lab results came back normal, non-cancerous. Since the polyp removal my spotting between periods is almost non-existent and my periods are so, so, so much lighter. One of the best things I ever did! :) Thanks again for your response!
