Hi, I have been diagnosed with PCOS and Interstitial Cystitis a 4 months ago. At my Doctors suggestion I have eliminated all carbs completely from my diet for about 3 months now. This means only veggies, meat, and a few berries. My doctor recommended I continue to stay on this diet since my blood sugar is now more under control. Im confused since Im new at this-will I have to be off carbs completely for life? I do feel and look a little better, but am so tired all the time. I wonder if this is a… read more
I am on a low carb high fat/ketogenic diet and it has done wonders for my PCOS and has been relatively easy to maintain. I have never been able to stick to a diet but I have been able to stick with it for over a year with 2 short periods off for the holidays. I never had regular periods and would go years without one single period. I started last January and since February, I have had regular periods the started at 37 days and are now at 30/31 days. I actually got pregnant in May but lost it due to chromosomal abnormalities but my period came right back like clock work. My lipid panel and A1c even improved! I have lost about 20lbs and was able to uncover a hypothyroid that I never would have known about because I blamed all my symptoms on PCOS. I could go on and on about eatng this way but I won't overwhelm you. If you have any questions, I am happy to answer. To answer your question, I still have some fatigue but it has decreased and I think it is more attributed to the hypothyroid than PCOS at this point. The fat has been a key to satiating hunger and maintaining energy.
Breakfast is usually a coffee or tea with MCT oil and heavy cream. If I am not fasting, I will have a few pieces of bacon or sausage (okay, maybe more than a few...lol). For snack I usually eat nuts or seeds (pumpkins seeds or sunflower seeds). For lunch, I usually have a huge salad with a whole avocado and oil and vinegar for dressing and whatever low glycemic vegetables I have on hand. Dinner is usually a protein and vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, kale or collard greens and green beans occasionally). When I am craving pizza, I bake provolone and pepperoni for 15 minutes at 300 degrees. It usually satisfies my craving. I hope that helps.
