Does Birth Control Pills Help?
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

I have not been officially been diagnosed. My doctor has stated that I show the symptoms of PCOS but cant be 100% until I have a pap smear. I do not have insurance so I cannot afford the 800$ exam. I recently went to planned parenthood and got an exam. I'm not sure they test for that though. I am now on birth control pills for the first time in my life. Im 29 by the way. Do birth control pills help with the symptoms? The weight gain, the hair, the ovary pain, etc...

I was on birth control for 10 years, throughout my 20s. I found it really helpful. It took away nearly all my symptoms in terms of acne and hair loss. You’ll still need to watch what you eat and try to stay low sugar, for your overall health, since the birth control essentially masks the underlying issue. It’s definately worth trying the birth control. Also, I was diagnosed using an Ultrasound, so you might need one of those too.
