Hair Thinning And Loss
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question πŸ’

Any tips out there for hair loss abs thinning especially around the scalp and hairline? Already take spiro but not noticing much difference besides what it has done for my cystic acne. I also take 5000mcg of biotin. I know exercise and healthy diet will help but any other tips that work?

I would not recommend a biotin supplement unless the doctor has told you that you specifically have a biotin deficiency. Otherwise, there is not much evidence for biotin helping. I will also add that I experimented with it for a couple years and I did not record an significant improvements. Therefore, I would say that you should just skip it and save your money if you aren't specifically deficient. There was a recent (2017) literature review done on published research looking into biotin and it found that there was not good evidence to support that biotin helps with hair loss in those that aren't deficient.

I found I have my worst hair loss at times when I am stressed. I lost my biggest chunks during that time period and had bald spots as well. So, as annoying as it sounds, paying attention to stress levels could be more important than taking any supplement.
A good nutrition plan should definitely not be overlooked. This again, could be more important than any supplements. Stress levels and diet the two things you should focus on first.

After that, I would recommend looking into rice bran oil. It has helped for me and there is research that supports its effectiveness. A Thai research hospital I was at found it to be just as effective as a commercial product. I am looking into quality products available in the U.S. for this right now. I would also look into using apple cider vinegar in shampoo as well. However, that was just something that worked for me and not something I have research articles to back up. Lastly, I have used a coconut oil/castor oil/vitamin e oil combination on my hair and eyelashes and have noticed they grow better.

I know it sounds weird but put onion in your shampoo. Once you rinse you don't smell the onion at all. It really helps strengthen & new growth πŸ’œπŸŒΌ

You can try scalp massages with or without oils. If you use essential oils always use a carrier oil. Read up on scalp massages, and see if it’s something you might be interested in.
