Has anyone ever been taken off metformin tablets?

Hi guys.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in October last year. I hadn’t had any periods prior to that for around a year. The doctor told me I had to lose at least 2 stone and prescribed me with metformin tablets to help with the weight loss. Since then I’ve lost 3 stone and I’ve had a period every month since November. I’m not 100% sure whether my periods were brought on from weight loss or if the metformin played a big part in this. Im due for a scan soon to see how… read more

The Metformin most likely helped with the weight-loss. Due to you losing weight it helped your periods. Even if you are taken off Metformin it should not affect your cycle as long as you keep the weight off/continue to lose weight. For some people such as me, it did not matter what weight i was at I always had an irregular cycle. The only thing that helped was Birth control, for those that are trying to have children they do have other options however, they may cause weight gain.
