I just came upon this amazing resource and couldn't be happier! My 19 year old daughter has PCOS and we are in the approval/preliminary stages for bariatric sleeve surgery. She is and has just suffered in silence emotionally and physically, as I do for her. Is there anyone here that can give me some guidance and knowledge from personal experience, as a mother and/or a teen girl, to help me help my daughter, want to take part in and receive information and support in all aspects. Hope that made… read more

Just be supportive and understanding. Help encourage her, keep her active and busy. Depression is the hardest part in my opinion. Not having support ( people to talk to, hang out with etc) allows depression to take over. Help her focus on the positive.

Hi there, I was diagnosed with pcos as a sophomore in college. It was definitely hard. Initially my symptoms showed up when I was in 8th grade in middle school, my tummy became enlarged and I gained another of weight. Facial hair started to appear. I can definitely understand your daughter and what she is going through. The only things that I have noticed have helped me control my weight and the rest of the symptoms is exercise and controlling what I eat (which is extremely hard if unmotivated). Consistent exercise will make her feel better and feel happier. And staying away from milk chocolate-substitute it for a darker version. If she wants a Starbucks choose and healthier version. There is a solution to pcos . Just have to be patient and consistent with exercise:) maybe a fitness coach and nutrition specialist could help her more .

Michelle hit ther nail on the head. I can't even go to my mom and tell her how I'm feeling bc she thinks that I'm just complaining. It's hard bc my mom and I are close. Shooo more importantly just gain as much info as possible and be supportive. Depression and anxiety are real!

I'm proud of you for reaching out and helping her. You legit just made me tear up
