I have been taking 1- 500 mg pill of Metformin daily since I was diagnosed back in 98....it hasn't helped me loose weight or brought on cycles....is it too little metformin? Do I need to ask my doctor to increase it?

I think I am going to start eliminating the sugar and cutting down on carbs and dairy as well. thank you sleeping beauty, Same Cole, and Ji-Li. All of you have been very helpful :)

Are you taking Metformin by itself? My doctor had given me Metformin with Medroxprogesterone and that helped me get my cycles back. I take Metformin twice a day and had took the Medroxyprogesterone 10 days a month for a year. I still have regular cycles since I stopped Medroxyprogesterone a few months ago due to considering having a child.

As for weight loss, myself and others I know taking Metformin don't necessarily lose weight from it. I believe the reason that some have lost weight from it has been because it can make you feel fuller quicker, but that effect can also not be seen in every individual taking it or go away after time. I had that effect at first when I took Metformin, so I would get full quick even after a small salad. I lost 10lbs originally afterwards, though it might have also been more due to finally being able to get cycles. Now though, my weight is still pretty weird. I could eat a salad and gain 5lbs, but on another day I eat insane amounts of meat and then lose 5lbs. I have read some articles recently though that says more protein is helpful for weight loss with PCOS, so maybe that explains it.

I took Metformin starting back in 2011 but at a low dose. I started seeing a fertility dr who upped my dosage. I could definitely tell a difference. My dr since I moved started me back on 500 twice a day last year but it didn't do anything again, so she upped it to 750x 2 and it still has not helped. I am seeing her tomorrow and she will probably be putting me on saxenda.

I was on 1500 metformin daily and lost no weight in a year. I only started to lose when I eliminated all sugar but fruit in addition to low carb low dairy. Down 20lbs in a few months of taking my eating seriously and I need to decrease my metformin because my BS is swinging low.
