Do You Ever Feel Like It's Your Fault?
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

I recently got engaged, and I want to feel beautiful in my wedding dress. I've been going to the gym, eating healthy, taking the medicine the doctor gives me, etc. I've done everything right, and continue to do so, but I'm not making any progress. I keep asking myself what I'm doing wrong, and I just feel like all the weight gain is my fault. So I was just wondering if anyone else has been though something similar, and if so how did you overcome it?

Definitely not your fault. It really sucks. That happened to me right before I got married. I started gaining weight pretty rapidly. I had gained about 15 pounds before my wedding, and then afterward about another 25-30. I was at the gym 5 days a week, 3 with a personal trainer for 5 months. I lost no weight and did not fit in my clothes any better either. It devastated me so I stopped going to the gym because I thought there was no point. It's been about 3 months since then and I want to try again. I'm hoping for a better outcome.

Anyway though, you should feel beautiful on your wedding day no matter what! Its your day. I pretended like I was a celebrity to give myself some confidence since I had gained some weight before the day. It helped my self esteem for that day. And even if you cant reach your goal before that day, you have the rest of your life to try and find something that may work for you, and take more pictures or do vow renewals with more pictures.

I really feel your pain. I'm sorry you're going through this. I went through the same thing before I got married. I had a trainer twice a week and was eating very healthy, but because of all the stress of planning I ended up gaining before my wedding (20 pounds). I even had to get a new dress 2 weeks before because my seamstress couldn't take my dress out anymore. I felt pretty devastated. Looking back, I wish I wouldn't have stressed so much about my body. The wedding ended up being a dream, and on the day I didn't even care what I was wearing. So if I have any advice as far as how to overcome it, I would say focus on how beautiful you are regardless of your weight. Try and focus on staying active and eating healthy to feel good, not necessarily to lose weight. When we put that kind of pressure on ourselves it only causes stress, which makes it much harder to lose and enjoy life. I wish you an AMAZING wedding. You are going to be a gorgeous bride!!

Well, I suggest interval training or running. Not a mile, at least 4 miles. People with pcos need to not eat any carbs, gluten, or any sugar. Think as if a normal person worksout for an hour, to get the same result, pcos people need to double that to get that result unfortunately (work harder). I have been on birth control over 12 years changing to different brands once in a while but now that I know if you are over a long time like ten years with birth control pills you may get trombose i am heading over to a specialist to see if i could be off birth control and stay just with the extended release metformin and start thinking about getting ready for marriage and soon think about kids. I wish you all the very best as the s disease is tricky and different from person to person!
