Heavy Prolonged Bleeding
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

Is this normal? Since the age of 11 (now 33) I’ve had about 12 periods. For the last year I’ve had they but they are getting worse. I have now had a period since November and I’m wearing pads and tampons and still leaking. I have to change both every couple of hours. It’s making my life hell. Dr said it was normal but did no tests. Gave me a contraceptive to help control, but nothing has changed after a month of taking it. I am constantly lethargic and exhausted. Help, please. Do I seek a second… read more

Inwould request a D&C. (Not painful procedure) I've had to have 2 to get my cycles to stop when BCP wouldn't.

Similar situation here. I bled for 4 months straight. I’m now on 2 BCP a day and it stops me from bleeding so me and my endocrinologist assume it has to do with my hormone levels. You definitely need a blood test and switch your OBGYN it’s not normal to bleed non stop, your estrogen could be exceeding progesterone which is common for women with PCOS.

Not normal! When I had a medical card I was told it’s ok that your not having periods some women just don’t. I even told them I had constant pelvis pressure discomfort, pain...once I got private insurance really good insurance at that I switched gynecologist and the first thing she said was “you poor thing your lining is so think and it can even lead to cancer in rare instances. My gynecologist said it’s aboalutely not normal. I was diagnosed with pcos and given provera to make me have a period (worst period ever since I hadn’t had one in 3 years!) then once I had a period I started Ashlyna birth control and now I have a period every 3 months no more pain! So definitely get bloodwork and possibly switch doctors ASAP! Good luck!!

Sure blood test is needed to have your hormones checked! This is not normal at all... Please change your OB/GYN...
