Is Anyone Else Able To Tell When They Have A Cyst?
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

I sometimes get a sharp pain in my ovaries, I can feel the pain when I move around but if I'm laying down I don't even notice it. My doctor told me I shouldn't be worried about it unless it causes massive discomfot or a lot of pain and that what I'm feeling is most likely a cyst. Does anyone else experience this?

I have a dull pain, been there off-on for the past 6 yrs.. March will mark 2 yrs.. hopefully, the pain will go away then.

I am not really sure if that pain is consistent with a cyst or not.. or if it is just the PCOS..

Also, I have felt what you feel, a sharp pain at times...???

My doctor said as long as I don't ignore the extreme pain for days like I did, I should be fine. I knew I had the pain but I figured it was a cyst and went horseback riding that day, and worked an 8 hour shift the day after that.

Seizures are really scary! Do what you can to avoid any more! I'm newly diagnosed, have no clue what I've been feeling, but I have had so much ovarian pain over the years - sometimes sharp, sometimes dull. It was bad enough that I was barely able to stand up straight for 1-3 days when ovulating, 4-6 days when having my period. In the last 15 years it's almost always on one side, was bad during my second trimester of pregnancy, is better but still there since - I was told it was adhesions. During my teen years it was mostly on the other side, both with periods and ovulation, but it varied. Because I don't have time to be disabled by pain for that many days a month, I've been using hormonal birth control without monthly breaks and that pain is no longer a significant problem. Acetaminophen with Ibuprofen, laying down and heat have always helped me. I'd prop up my elbow so I could fall asleep with my hand over wherever it hurt the most, but I always found heating pads to be too hot.

At times, ya it is sharp. But for the most part it's mostly a dull pain. The last time I got REALLY sharp pains that lasted, I ignored it for 3 days and ended up having a seziure. The doctors said I was in so much pain that my body shut down so it could process all of the pain resulting in a seziure. But for the most part both pains (dull and shapr) come and go and usually don't last long.
