Metformin, Birth Control, Lexapro
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

Good afternoon all,
I’ve had PCOS for the last16 years and have been on 1,000 mg metformin for insulin resistance and Yaz now Nikki birth control to help with my cysts and hormones. Added in lexapro a couple years ago to help with fluctuating high highs and low lows. Is anyone else on this combination or taking any of the 3. I’m now 36 and wanting to know what’s working for others.

I have been having highs and lows because I haven't stepped. High dheas can cause insomnia or sleep issues and anxiety.

Hi, I am also on metformin. I find metformin helped in the beginning but if you are not consistent with the medication it may not help.

I have been on Lexapro for bipolar before. It was one of the best ones I ever had, but they tried to switch me to celexa since they're "similar"& it was cheaper... Did NOT do so well. I've known other ppl who've taken metformin. One person was given it for weight loss, but it ended up causing them reliance for the insulin regulation after a while. I was only ever on birth control once and it was the DEPO shot. I don't remember it helping, but I did get out on progesterone that I would take for so many days each month to regulate, and I think it was starting to help... I'm sorry I've worked with lots of Drs but never really go to them so I don't have more experience to help. Good luck!
