Members shared mixed experiences with metformin for PCOS, with many noting improvements in cycle regularity, cyst control, and reduced food cravings, though weight loss results varied significantly from person to person. Several members described common side effects including nausea, headaches, stomach upset, and severe reactions to the regular formulation, with slow-release versions being better tolerated and taking metformin after eating helping reduce digestive issues. A recurring theme was the medication's slow but steady progress in managing insulin resistance and PCOS symptoms, with members emphasizing the importance of patience, dietary adjustments, and working closely with doctors to find the right approach for individual needs.

My dr has me on Metformin. Been on it for years. Since I've been on it, I have noticed that my cysts are, for the most part, under control. Occasionally, I may experience a very painful cyst, but that's maybe once every few months

I had to fight for Metformin as a chance to use it. Since being on it, my cycle is more controlled. I found that where before I would have a period somewhere between 4 weeks and 3 months. When i got onto Metformin it went from 4 weeks to 5 weeks. which is far more controlled. It did allow me to loose weight, but it's still super super slow for me and I have to be on a no carb diet (protein and veg only) and it is still very very very very slow. but at least it can go down now rather than before nothing I did helped it go down. My biggest issue with Metformin though is if you take it too soon into a meal I find it makes me nauseous, sometimes so much that I vomit. So I've had to make sure I have plenty of food in my belly before taking it and as far as I know it's not the fast working thing. I still crave foods. but I feel I have the chance to get lower in weight and at least my cycle is more predictive.

I’m currently on metformin slow release and I don’t notice much difference. It hadn’t helped with weight lose at all for me. I have insulin resistance so for me I wanted to get a handle on my insulin issues before I ended up pre diabetic. I first tried taking the quick release twice a day metformin and within three days was throwing up the worst I ever had and shaking uncontrollably in bed. It effected me really badly to the point that I had to stop taking it immediately. The slow release has been much better for me so far but I really don’t notice any differences. I also have an IUD if that means anything in this context.
