My older sister also has PCOS and has been taking Metformin. She says it works and has been helping her with symptoms including losing weight. Any more recommendations? Tips/advice? Other alternatives?

Members shared mixed but largely positive experiences with Metformin for PCOS, with many reporting benefits like regulated periods, significant weight loss (ranging from 25 to 78 pounds), reduced inflammation, and improved energy levels, though several noted digestive side effects that were manageable with probiotics or slow-release formulations. Several members recommended inositol as a natural alternative with fewer side effects, reporting it helped with cycle regulation and symptoms, while others suggested starting Metformin at a lower dose and gradually increasing to minimize nausea and stomach issues. A recurring theme was the importance of patience and persistence, as results varied widely in timing and effectiveness, with some members seeing quick improvements while others needed months to notice changes.

Hey there is a natural form called inositol. Search on google inositol for pcos and there is a good article. I think its by tarryn poulton. If you wanted to try it i buy it in iherb.com

I've been on Metformin for over 10 years. It keeps my cycle regulated, and keeps the insulin resistance in check, but I have digestive issues from taking it. I take probiotics to help that, and it works most of the time.

I was on Metformin for about 8 years, it helped regulate my cycles after a while though I had difficultly with my blood sugar going way too low. I did not have any weight loss and eventually went off and my cycles are still very regular now.
