I am not sure why anyone would shame you for a chronic illness. Oh, wait, you said ovary. And let me guess you explained the symptoms and they said that if you'd just try a little harder, ate a little better, got some fortitude, you wouldn't feel terrible all the time, wouldn't gain weight, if you'd just put the French fry down (quoth my mother in law). Yea I've been shamed, although until June I didn't know I had PCOS, so I was ashamed. It took 26 years for someone to diagnose me. When I was finally diagnosed, I had all of these light bulb moments, like oh snap that is why I gained 30 ponds in three months. Oh wow, when I eat this I feel this way.
Light bulb, light bulb, light bulb!!!
My advice to you, is listen to your body! Listen to yourself! Take care of you! Let them shame don't take it to heart. Let them be the jerk.
You have no choice in what your body does but you have a choice in how you react.
I'm currently working on a post for my blog to share why I found it important to share I had PCOS on my facebook page.... indirectly this is one of the reasons. People still don't talk about "feminine issues", or medical female reproductive stuff- its still too taboo for some reason. I think thats lame. No one should ever be shamed for sharing their story or experience, EVER. Keep being you, keep being honest and unapologetic. People will say whatever they want, but to be offended by a very real thing that is medically affecting somebody else is dumb.

Thank you!
