Meds And Suppliments?
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question πŸ’

Looking for advise on meds or supplements to control my symptoms: weight gain, heavy and VERY painful irregular cycles, excessive hair growth, and 3 miscarriages with only 1 child
I have tried multiple birth controls but non seem to help with the heaviness or pain levels. Have never tried any other meds. I am going to see a new ob/gyn that hopefully knows more about PCOS then the last couple of docs. And have done a bit of research on supplements to help with things: Spironolactane,… read more

Hi!

Spironolactane is a prescription drug - talk to your doctor to see if it might be a good fit. I take it (currently not trying to get pregnant as it is a NO PREGNANCY med). It's a good fit for me since it doesnt lower my blood pressure to dangerous levels (its actually a hypertension med). Has gotten rid of my jawline acne for the first time in my life. And hair growth has lessened on my chin.

Ovasitol is actually myo-inositol and d-chiro inositol in theraputic doses, I've heard great things about it - and from what I understand it works similarly to metformin without a lot of the side affects. For me, I just take the metformin because my insurance covers it where as ovasitol can be pricey.

I take a b-complex vitamin since I'm on metformin and it can cause vitamin B deficiencies - couldnt tell you what improvements I've seen from it - but I don't suffer any side affects.

I take a fish oil supplement - originally it was to lower triglycerides but I've also noticed it has improved joint pain and over all inflammation.

I planned on adding vitamin D to my regime next!

Happy to answer any other questions you may have!

As to supplements ive taken...
Calcium, magnesium, folate, b12, cq10, ala, milk thistle, chromium chited, a multivitimen , zink, and a few others combined they where all helpful in their fashion for getting things alined and the weight down. But became cost prohibitive to the point i was forced to stop and now have to rely on what the government program will cover for my health options (which is only the calcium, magnesium, b12 and the multi vitamin).
