Heavy Periods After Not Having One For A While

Question

I have had PCOS for approximately 3 years. In between these 3 years I've have maybe 2 periods (random spotting inbetween the count of this is unknown but a lot). I just started a period 2 weeks ago. My last period was May of 2018  and it was normal and lasted about 7-9 days or so and wast super heavy, just normal. However, this period IS SO HEAVY and I have been clotting a lot. Its to the point i cannot wear tampons because the clots stop from my flow and im having to change my Tampon almost every hour even though it isnt full, there is just a clot in the way and makes my tampon slip out. Im having to wear pads, the changing on these is ever 3-5 hours which is easier BUT SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I am going on 2 and a half weeks of having this period which I have never experienced before. I am not wanting to waste money in co-pays if i know this is normal for someone with PCOS. Anyone else experience this and have any insite or clarity? Any tips on helping it lighten and eventually stop?

I also had the same issue once then my doctor gave me contraceptive for 3 months without gap to recover this condition and stop periods and readjust cycle.
