Members shared encouraging experiences with Metformin for PCOS, with many successfully achieving pregnancy even without diabetes, sometimes within weeks or months of starting treatment. Several members explained that doctors prescribe Metformin for PCOS to regulate hormones and menstrual cycles rather than only for blood sugar issues, with benefits including weight loss, regular periods, and improved fertility. A recurring theme was reassurance that Metformin is safe and effective for hormone regulation in PCOS patients who are not diabetic, with multiple members celebrating healthy children born after treatment.

My daughter is not diabetic but was prescribed Metformin as well to try to regulate her hormones. I always thought Metformin was used only in cases of patients that had diabetes but learned it is used for hormonal disorders as well. I don’t know if it is used as a fertility drug, but if an imbalance of hormones is causing infertility issues, it makes sense that if those hormonal imbalances are straightened out, fertility would improve as well.

That is good to hear since my 21 year old daughter was just diagnosed with PCOS. She hardly ever got her period and her hormone levels were all out of wack with the hormone responsible for ovulating bring very low, so her endocrinologist prescribed Metformin for her even though she is not diabetic. I was afraid my daughter having PCOS could mean she is infertile, and while she is not trying to get pregnant now, it is encouraging to read you were able to get pregnant so quickly after being on Metformin.

Not that I know of, I am not pre-diabetic, though I am on the higher end of 'normal' (5.30 on the A1C test), if that is what you are asking?

I was prescribed metformin (500mg, twice daily), however it was only to regulate my cycle.. I wasn't ttc. my Primary Care Physician prescribed it.

I wish you the best!
