Mirena And PCOS. Bleeding Suddenly
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ

Hello,

so this is my first time with mirena and i was given it to help ease my PCOS/adenomyosis/fibroid symptoms. I'd have spotting sometimes but it would normally go away that day.

But i'm at like, the 10 month mark, and this week i've had a very light bleed on and off for about 7 days with some mild cramps (either normal mild or based on what i used to get) and i'm wondering if that's normal?

My "cycle" before this was like 2 months non stop then like 6 months off. no real consistencyโ€ฆ read more

Hi! I've had a Mirena IUD since 2019! I had a normal cycle for 11 to 13 yrs then it's was completely random and I'd have very painful back and cramps, heavy bleeding for a overnight pad in the day and clots. The first time it was inserted, I had lighter bleeding but still cramping. At my first check-up she realized the IUD was pushed out of place by how much clotting I was having, she gave me the option to try again but if this one was pushed out of place I'd have to find a new method of contraceptive. I agree to try again, I did have lighter bleeding to spotting and my cramps were lessening. At week 3 I was anxious and wanted them to check the strings and they were still in place. After the first year I was spotting every couple month like barely noticeable, so I wouldn't say it's uncommon to have spotting every now and then because at the end of the day if I remove this IUD I'm probably going to revert back to having heavy bleeding and clots and severe pain so I think the IUD is just doing the best that it can.

I'm 23 now and have my appointment for a new one to be inserted soon! The only spotting I get I notice it as I go to the restroom so I haven't had an overflow or any ruined undies in like 4 years ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ. I say it's probably a part of the adjustment period your body is going through, if it was a year or two or year three I would get it checked out to see if that's what you're normal is going to look like on the IUD or not. But of course if you are worried trust your gut, it can't hurt to just be safe!
I try to find humor in the tough truths and waiting periods to see if something is going to work for me, I tell myself I'm like superwoman and these human devices were not made for me, be patient with yourself Queen๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ
Hope this helps!Best of luck๐Ÿ’œ
