Does Anyone Here Take Metformin Or Glucose Meds Who Is NOT Insulin Resistant And Find Any Benefits?
A myPCOSteam Member asked a question 💭

So far my tests don’t show insulin resistance that I know of but the doctor was talking about putting me on metformin anyways. Anybody else benefitted from that? Did metformin regulate your cycle even if you didn’t have insulin problems?

Totally agree with you, its always best to ask those who are dealing with these things on a daily basis, than health care professionals who may not be going through any of this themselves! I always say, you know your body best, if something doesn’t feel right, chances are, there is something going on! Thank you 🤍its the trying to lose weight thats quite difficult isn’t it! I will definitely make sure to share any updates on here, hoping the referral comes through soon! x

Thank you!! You are so sweet I appreciate you! Don’t be sorry, I’m very grateful for all of the information! Cause there’s no where else to find any answers to questions like these so it is extremely helpful/informative. I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling with the endometriosis and that they won’t fix it yet, I really hope that improves for you ❤️🤞. And yes, if you have any updates I’d love to know! Thank you again and wishing you all the best :)

It could do wonders with your symptoms and fertility! Some have said it hasn’t helped them at all though, so just bare that in mind too and patience is also important i would say :). I want to say some symptoms have gotten better and some gotten worse. I don’t have high testosterone it seems now, as everytime i go for blood tests, that one comes back pretty normal. I will say i barely have periods now though, i don’t take contraception in hopes i may have more children one day, but i haven’t had a natural period for around a year, always just spotting then have to take provera to induce a period to help the spotting stop as it usually lasts weeks, sometimes months! I do have more hair growth on my face now, i have also notice i lose more hair whilst showering, or maybe i just didn’t notice it as much before my son. I’m still obese as healthcare professionals would say, i still get a lot of pelvic pain but i also have suspected Endometriosis but they won’t operate to find out as you have to be below a certain BMI here in the UK through the NHS so its still a massive struggle with that, yet its been years and won’t help me further. I haven’t had cysts on my ovaries since giving birth though it seems! I am due another ultrasound scan soon i’m just waiting for referral from my GP as its been a few years since i’ve had one, i will update on here with any findings if there is any though!
Sorry for the long post, just trying to think of everything i can which has or hasn’t changed. :)

No problem @A myPCOSteam Member ! Anything else you want to know, just ask i’ll be happy to answer if i can! I will say, if you’re trying for a baby, you may end up with gestational diabetes due to insulin resistance, not saying that you will, but its a possibility! But it is controlled though, luckily the healthcare professionals are pretty good in that way!

My tests didn’t really show insulin resistance either. It was mainly higher levels of testosterone for me. But i was put on metformin, lost a bit of weight and was pregnant within 6 weeks of being on it! It was like a miracle as i was trying to conceive for a few years before that with no luck! I will say some of the side effects can be a bit horrible, but it ended up getting better after a couple of weeks. I hope it works out well for you!
